Just a couple of hours to the south east of Cape Town brings you into an area known as The Overberg where the landscape is dominated by rolling wheat fields backed by the outline of rugged Cape fold mountains. The southern coast boasts some of the finest land based whale watching in the world between July – November when the Southern Right Whales come right into the bays to give birth. There are many boat trips available or you can just sit on the shoreline watching these amazing mammals. Down near the southern most tip of Africa, Cape Aghulas, you will find the sleepy village of Arniston with its warm, sandy beaches and turquoise blue seas. One of the highlights of the day here is to watch the fishermen come home in the afternoon and unload their catch of the day!
